Why You Need Business Cards

It’s happened to all of us…

We tell someone about our business in friendly conversation and they seem interested and tell you that they’ll reach out. They try scribbling your phone number onto the backside of a napkin or quickly jotting your information into the “Notes” app on their phone. However, surprise, surprise… you never hear from them.

Here’s the rub. People want to do business with you, especially if you have great products or services. However, if they’re jotting your info onto a napkin, they’ll lose the napkin. If they’re typing your info into the “Notes” app on their phone, they’ll forget all about it.

So what’s the solution? How do we transfer information over to our potential customers or leads in an effective way? In a way that will keep the idea of our business in front of them?

I know the answer sounds overly-simple and I apologize… actually, I don’t apologize. My overly eager apology has been revoked. The answer is… you need business cards.

I always keep at least 10 business cards in my wallet at any given time. It helps me be sure that I’m ready and not caught unprepared when someone asks me what I do. Not only is it a great way to transfer business information, but it’s also a physical product that they’ll keep in their car, in their kitchen drawer, on the fridge, etc. And guess what, every time they stumble upon it will be another interaction that YOUR BRAND is having with a potential lead.

Now, I’m not saying you have to carry around an ugly stack of boring rectangular cards with you. In fact, the better the design of your business card the better. There are a lot of design elements to consider when designing your cards. What is the most urgent or important information? What’s the call to action? Is there a photo of you or your product featured? All of these questions are important to consider, but the most important thing is that you’re prepared with a set of your own business cards.
